Thanks to UTEP, the Woodworkers Club of El Paso, and local artist, Miguel Bonilla, our borderland Little Free Library movement has just expanded! We have just completed 10 more free book exchanges, which will be going to EPISD libraries primarily. We have also just received funds to build another 12, which will put us right at 134 LFLs across the border. Feel free to contact me in case you’d like one for your campus, home, neighborhood or business. A wonderful grassroots movement that promotes a love of books, sharing, recycling; all while enhancing a sense of community. Take a Book – Give a Book.

At the beginning of the school year 2016-17, First Book and dd’s Discount store selected Herrera to receive Back-to-School fundraiser monies so that each student can receive a free book each. There were enough funds to purchase 520 brand new books through First Book. The Mo Willems theme was perfect for the occasion since the El Paso Public Library had just performed two Mo Willems plays during Reading Across the District (RAD) for all the lower grades (PPCD-2nd). Students enjoyed the performances thoroughly. Receiving a free Mo Willems book was definitely the highlight of December, right before the holidays.
