Coding, UTEP grant, & free books

uring the month of December, students in grades 4th-5th got to participate at Herrera Library’s Hour of Code. Students were taught about the importance of computer science and how coding can give them the critical thinking skills they need in order to not just be internet consumers, but creators/contributors. They were given a 45 minute session on Hour of Code’s unplugged lesson using cups. Please visit https://code.org/curriculum/unplugged

Also, through Scholastic Dollars, the library was able to purchase a Little Bits Student Set and Synthesizer so that students can learn about electric circuits. Younger makers began inventing with electronics in seconds. It was Herrera’s first time adopting the Makerspace Movement through electronics. Please see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq2PhoTtHIM
