The number of Syrian refugees has officially reached one million according to the UN refugee agency. The number of refugees fleeing the country continues to climb with anywhere from 7,000 to 8,000 Syrians leaving the country daily. More than half of these people are children. These numbers reflect that by the end of the conflict, there will be no Syria left, and no Syrians to claim their country.
Although the UN has attempted to, its efforts to ease the tensions within the country have proven futile. Surrounding countries in the Middle East and nations in Europe have done all that they can to support the influx of refugees within their borders by providing them with housing and security.
The outside world should be getting involved in the liberation of the people. Assad’s regime has always suppressed the Syrian people. This diplomat and his cabinet, like many in the Middle East, is simply residue from post-colonial Britain. The western World always finds excuses to invade other countries to “help” the people. America and its European counterparts should have become actively involved in Syria two years ago if they really cared for the plight of the people. Prolonging his conflict will only mean disaster for the rest of the country and essentially the world.
As of now it is only a matter of time before this civil war will come to an end. As of now, it looks like the Free Syrian Army Rebels will become the victors of this conflict. If this happens the future of the country will be in question, but it will certainly breed a better result than if the Assad regime remains in power. Regardless, the freedom of Syria will hopefully occur soon to ensure the peace and restoration of the people and land. The next chapter of the Arab spring can only begin when this one is complete.
