Schools , views draw residents to Mound
Over the last few years , Mound has been solidifying itself as a go-to city on Lake Minnetonka ’ s western shores . Between its miles of lakeshore and the Dakota Rail Trail running through the city , Mound has all of the physical aspects an outdoor lover could ask for .
The friendly and welcoming atmosphere , nestled in one of the state ’ s top school districts , has been drawing in new residents for years .
The city has the largest population of the cities that line Lake Minnetonka . The population of Mound is nearly 9,000 according to latest statistics . More than 17 miles of lakeshore , mostly along Lake Minnetonka , are located in the 4.9 square miles of Mound .
While the city works to bring in development to the Harbor District , the Mound-Westonka Rotary has put forth significant effort to brighten up the area with temporary improvements including picnic areas , statues and a musical installation .
Recreation is a highlight of the city which includes miles of public shoreline , beaches , more than 300 public dock sites , a skate park and numerous other parks , several offering lake access . Also offering opportunities for recreation and enjoyment is the Dakota Rail Trail , running right through the downtown area .
Mound has drawn regional and national attention . It has been rated in the top 20 on real estate company Movoto ’ s list of the Best Minneapolis Suburbs .
The city council chambers are located in the old city hall , now named the Centennial Building at 5341 Maywood Road , Mound , MN 55364 . Meetings are held at 7 p . m . on second and fourth Tuesdays .
