A place for the community to gather
The Gillespie Center is a center for the community , run by the community . It ’ s a popular venue for community events , including weddings , banquets , business seminars and is often where premiere events are held during community festivals and events .
Weekly programs keep citizens active and involved in the community as well . The Gillespie Center offers many activities such as Art Group , Photo Club , Exercise / Fitness Groups , ( Strength & Cardio , Gentle Yoga , Over 50 & Fit ), Square Dancing , Ukulele Group , Gillespie Singers , Quilters , and various game / card groups . Educational programs and classes are also offered featuring a variety of topics from container gardening , financial planning , identity theft / fraud , health and wellness , cooking , travel and much more .
In order to continue serving the community , the Gillespie Center holds annual fundraisers to help with operating costs , ensuring that it can continue to offer services and opportunities for the west lakes area . These include Santa ’ s Treasures , Holiday Boutique , Golf Tournament , BBQ & Bingo , Flea Market & Antique Motorcycles , Italiano Dinner and Al & Alma ’ s Lunch Cruises to name a few . Day trips are also planned to casinos , plays and concerts , museums , tours of sport facilities and more .
Other free services are offered throughout the year . These include blood pressure checks , health insurance counseling , hearing checks and seasonal income tax assistance . Nurse delivered foot care is provided at the Center each month . Services include trim , thin , file and buff nails , smooth corns and calluses . Light massage , foot care assessment , and education provided .
The Gillespie Center ’ s normal business hours are Monday through Friday 8 a . m . - 4 p . m . Rentals are available during additional hours . The center is located at 2590 Commerce Blvd . in Mound .
