Business meets natural beauty in Orono
Taking up a rather large portion of the northern shore of Lake Minnetonka , Orono offers a natural escape from the big city of Minneapolis , which lies only 15 miles west . Sixteen of the city ’ s 24 square miles is land , with the rest being a water retreat for all to enjoy .
The city is home to around 8,100 people and a bustling business district named Navarre , which could see even more development in the near future .
One of the crown jewels of the City of Orono , is its police department , with Chief Correy Farniok at the helm . The department serves Orono , as well as the cities of Minnetonka Beach , Mound and Spring Park . In 2016 , the department settled into newly constructed improvements to their home at Orono ’ s City Hall . Orono is also in the process of creating a city-run fire department .

The Orono City Council meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p . m . at Orono City Hall , located at 2750 Kelley Parkway .
Elections for city council seats are held every two years .
