I commit our university to that task. I will lead the board,
senate, faculty and staff to listen respectfully, teach the
truth, own the past, work for the future and celebrate
each life as a gift from Creator.
As a community we will be open to seeking a good way
forward with our Aboriginal sisters and brothers.
We will advocate for justice and dignity for residential
school survivors.
We will speak out against racism, marginalization and
systemic injustices faced by all indigenous peoples.
We will strive to make our campus a hospitable place of
training for social transformation, where all are welcome,
where each one’s gift is celebrated, and each person’s
life is respected as a sacred response to the Creator’s
life in us all.
As an expression of our commitment to forging new
friendships of respect and cooperation with the Aboriginal
peoples of this land, we will plant a commemorative
garden on our university campus. We will decorate
a wooden park bench with commemorative wooden
tiles from Project of Heart, each tile bearing a design
of reconciliation and friendship. The bench will be
surrounded by fruit bearing medicine shrubs and
