MUSIC CHAIR ELECTED TO EDMONTON’S CULTURAL HALL OF FAME

and his spouse, King’s Adjunct Professor DR. MARNIE
GIESBRECHT, have been elected to be inducted into
Edmonton’s Cultural Hall of Fame, in the Artist/Builder
category, on June 16.
This well-deserved honour is not only for their individual
artistic and educational contributions at King’s and the
University of Alberta (U of A), to the musical/liturgical life
of the church, other cultural organizations in the city, to
the Royal Canadian College of Organists (on national and
local level), but also as keyboard duo “Duo Majoya” with
performances all over the world and many CDs. Their
nomination was enthusiastically endorsed by members of
Edmonton’s cultural community.
Dr. Segger has been on King’s Faculty since its beginning
in 1979, first as sessional instructor and then as full-time
faculty member since 1983. He became Chair of the
Music Department in 2008. He is also Adjunct Professor
of Keyboard at the U of A. Dr. Giesbrecht is Professor in
Keyboard at the U of A where there is a Doctorate in
Organ Performance. She also serves as Adjunct
Professor in Keyboard and Organ at King’s.
