A Liturgy
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
of Doors
…You’re left with only days, bare and perforated, a liturgy of doors, perfect symbol.
Don’t days, after all, amount to this, lined up, surreptitious? You open them and
examine them, you count them and you count them down.
– Brett Foster, The Advent Calendar
B
rett Foster is a poet and a friend. His poem captured so
perfectly for me the count down to King’s. The Board
announced my candidacy for the role in January amidst much
fanfare and celebration. And the countdown began to July 1,
the date I officially took office.
Four months into the role and I have immersed myself in
learning the language, culture and people of King’s and her
supporting constituency. Though I am a quarter Dutch by
heritage (my grandmother was a Van Ieperen), I am learning
to speak with a Reformed accent. I look forward to meeting
many of you in the coming months.
I am excited by the potential and substance that I see at
King’s. Our committed and quality faculty and staff members
are dedicated to helping students thrive! The students I have
met to date are a lively and engaging crew! I look forward
to seeing you at Eagles games, King’s theatre and music
productions, chapel and other community events.
As we start a new academic year I am both delighted and
humbled to serve as your President. We have much to be
thankful to God for as a university community. It is my prayer
that we continue to live into our biblical vision of restoration of
all things in Jesus Christ. ?
