National forum inspires

T
oward the end of this past April, in the midst of exam
season, Eric Macintosh, Vice President for Student
Development, approached me. He asked if I was interested
in going to Ottawa to attend the National Student Forum.
Naturally, with the drudgery of papers and finals weighing upon
me, I relished the opportunity to jet away!
Up until that point I had not heard much about the Forum,
but as I read up on the event instead of studying for my finals,
I became even more intrigued. Earlier in the semester I had
the privilege of attending the Quest program in Cuernavaca,
Mexico, courtesy of the Micah Centre, and I felt honored and
eager to again attend an external event that my university
promoted. And, as a third-year Politics-History-Economics
(PHE) major, the Forum seemed to be right up my alley.
At King’s I have had the privilege of experiencing not only the
richness of faith-based learning inside of the classroom and in
dialogue with my professors, fellow students and peers, but
also been able to see how that translates into the reality of
my faith in action outside of my classroom. This “faith-ineveryday-life” idea has been central to my family and church
upbringing, and so it has been a delight to attend an institution
of higher learning like King’s that encourages the nurturing
of mind and heart in academics that is inwardly reflective but
outwardly focused.
