with Heather Van Haren
This past July, Alumni Relations Manager
Josh Noble sat down for a round of ten
questions with Heather Van Haren
(’12 B.Sc. Biology), having recently
returned from Mount Assiniboine Lodge,
British Columbia where she was working
for the summer.
What have you been keeping busy with
since grad?
I went on a road trip with some fellow
alumni down to Whidbey Island,
Washington. We volunteered at Au
Sable*. Then I spent some time working
at home on the buffalo farm with Dad.
Most recently I’ve been working at Mount
Assiniboine Lodge.
So what’s the plan for September?
I’ll be moving out to Ontario to attend
the University of Waterloo’s school of
optometry.
Wow. Optometry school, isn’t that
pretty competitive to get in?
Well, there is only one English speaking
optometry school in Canada, so I guess
a little bit.

mention?
Only that I have been amazed by the
importance of the work that the Senate
and Board of Governors do. I had no idea
as a student until I was involved as SA
president. ?
You’re being modest but I shouldn’t
put you on the spot like that. You were
pretty active at King’s—what are some
of the different hats that you wore while
you were here?
Hmmm…Student, Co-president of the
Outdoor Club, SA president, Level Coffee
Shop barista, note taker, tutor…those are
some of the ones that spring to mind.
As a new alumna, what is your vision
for King’s?
Wow. Tough question. I am looking
forward to seeing who will be our new
?On September 7, 2012 alumni from
the past seven years faced off against
the King’s Eagles women’s soccer
team.
Crystal Dueck (’03, BA) travelled
to Germany this summer to serve
with Greater Europe Mission (GEM).
Crystal has already spent time in
Ireland working with GEM.
Geoff Salomons (’04, BA)
recently began his Ph.D
in Political Science at UAlberta.
Our very own organist prodigy
Leora Nauta (’08, B.Mus.) has
begun her Ph.D in Musicology across
the Atlantic Ocean. Leora is studying
in Holland in Utrecht.
