Students, faculty and staff duck, dodge
and dive for a good cause

n March 2 crowds cheered, students ducked, and faculty
dodged in support of the Micah Centre’s Honduras Water
Project. The Honduras Dodgeball Fundraiser raised money to
help the 13 members of the 2012 Honduras Water Project Team
cover flights, in-country expenses and materials for the project.
Recently team members received a new assignment. On May
2 team members travelled to Gracia a Dios, Yoro in north
central Honduras. While there they helped construct a portion
of the water system. Gracia a Dios, meaning thanks to God,
is a relatively new settlement that was started in 2006 after
a relocation of several families from Colon, when the then
president, Manual Zelaya, donated a total of 351 acres under
the name of a farmer cooperative, and 35 families received a
piece of land.
In addition to the dodgeball tournament, the project hosted a
benefit dinner on March 24, has done ongoing lawn care and
held bake sales to help raise money for the project.
