King’s athlete spikes her way to Europe
K
aila Whitton, King’s Eagles volleyball, player has dreamed of
joining older brother, Jono, and playing professional volleyball
in Europe. She is well on her way to making this dream
come true.
Whitton recently obtained the help of an agent in Europe who is
scouting her profile to teams around the continent. In her fourth
year at King’s as a psychology major, Kaila has long looked
forward to the prospect of following in her brother’s footsteps
and playing volleyball abroad.
Kaila has been an athlete since grade 7. She played volleyball
throughout junior high and high school on the school teams and
as the member of a club. Kaila comes from a family of King’s
alumni and successful athletes. Brother Jono, currently playing in
Rüsselheim, Germany, and brother James, a professional golfer,
are both former King’s students.
In early march, Kaila was selected as a CCAA Volleyball AllCanadian. Only 10 players are chosen across the Canadian
Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) each year per sport to be
an All-Canadian. Kaila is the first Eagle for Women’s Volleyball to
receive this prestigious distinction.
In January Kaila was
spotlighted in the
Edmonton Journal
and named King’s
Athlete of the Week.
