Primary Matters
This has been a busy half-term for us on the primary
front as we have welcomed pupils, parents and carers
from Years 5 and 6 to a number of events focused
on transition. We have hosted hundreds of families as
they attended our open evening or toured the school
on our official open days in September. Since then,
we have had numerous additional families touring the
school in October as they make their final choice of
secondary school for September 2017.
Choosing the best school for your child is difficult but
it is often made harder by some schools which only
allow prospective families to tour their school on
official open days. At The Kimberley School, we want
to ensure that you and your child have the opportunity
to see our school on a normal working day, rather
than a staged event, and that is why we are always
happy to accommodate tours. If you would like to come
and see our school, you are welcome to do so at any
time. Please contact us and we will arrange a date with
you. You will be escorted around the school by some
of our students, who will be happy to answer your
questions, and the tour will finish with the opportunity
to ask any further questions you have with either Miss
Hughes, Assistant Headteacher (Primary Liaison and
Transition) or Mr Watson (Transition Coordinator).
For those of you who have children in Year 6 and
who want to apply to The Kimberley School, you have
until the end of October to complete the forms which
your local authority will have sent you. We guarantee a
place for all children in our feeder schools, regardless
of where they live, and will do everything we can to
meet demand from out of catchment schools. It is
important that you put our school down as first choice,
however, as once the first choice places have been
allocated you may find that we have no further
places to offer, if you have put another school as first
choice and not been successful. If you are not initially
successful in your application to The Kimberley
School, we would advise you to appeal immediately.
If you are a Year 5 parent who is considering The
Kimberley School as your choice of secondary
school for 2018, please feel free to contact us if you
would like any information about our school or the
application and transition process. You are most
welcome to visit us at any time of the year.
We are currently working on a project in partnership
with our primary colleagues on promoting British
Values. Each of the schools has taken one of the
British Values and is creating a display on what that
value means to our school. We have ‘Mutual Respect’
and we are working with our students on identifying
what mutual respect looks like in our school. Our
display will include articles and images that demonstrate how our students show respect to each ot
