SIXTH FORM
Results News
It was a great summer for our
Sixth Form both in terms of
results and the destinations
our students have gone on
to. The pass rate was 99% at
A level and our AS students
performed extremely well,
coming out with results
that put them in the top
third nationally for student
performance Year 13 university applicants have headed
off to universities both near
and far including; Exeter,
Nottingham, York, Sheffield,
Manchester, Kent, London,
Bath, Loughborough, Derby,
Lancaster, Keele, Surrey,
Leicester, Sunderland, Leeds
and Lincoln. A number of other
successful students have
now started on apprenticeships in; IT, Accountancy,
Engineering, Retail, Business
Administration and with the
NHS. We wish all of our Year
13 leavers well and look
forward to hearing from them
and receiving updates on their
progress.
Settling In
The
Sixth
Form
have
wasted no time in settling
into the new school term,
with a very hard working,
enthusiastic new Year 12
cohort fitting in well with our
Year 13 students.
To help Year 12 make a
successful start to their Sixth
Form studies, we have run
an Information Evening as
well as an ongoing subject
mentoring programme.
Year 12 Information
Evening
Featuring: Charlotte Watson, Laura Radford,
Lydia Mills, Tom Mendham, Jack Forrester ,
Kerris Palmer, Georgia Hawksworth and Alice
Richmond celebrating their A-level results.
On September 22nd, the
Year 12 Information Evening
took place. The idea was for
parents and students from
Year 12 to receive information that will help students to
settle
successfully
into
Sixth Form work and life. A
number of Year 13 students
gave information that they
would like to have known
when they began in Year 12.
A film created by last year’s
Year 13 students, with them
talking about the Sixth Form,
was also shown. Feedback
was really positive about the
evening and it was very well
attended.
Subject Mentoring
Scheme
Year 13 students have been
volunteering to meet with
Year 12 students who take
the same subjects as them,
so that they can offer them
advice on how to be
successful academically.
After-school
events
with
subject mentors meeting Year
12 students have been an
opportunity for the two year
groups to mingle, as well as
for support to be offered and
for links to be established.
These meetings will continue
throughout the autumn term.
UCAS (University &
College Admissions
Service)
Students are now in the
process of applying for
university. Six of our students
who are applying for; Medicine,
Dentistry at Oxford University
have already sent off their
applications in order to hit
the 15th October deadline
for such highly competitive
places. Meanwhile, students
are continuing to attend Friday
night UCAS help sessions
to work on perfecting their
personal statements before
submitting their applications.
Trips Out
We have had a number of
Year 12 and 13 students out
on trips already this term with
Year 12 & 13 Silver Duke
of Edinburgh expeditions over
2 weekends, Year 12 hill
walking in Derbyshire and
the Cern trip to Switzerland.
There are many more trips
planned for this year which will
continue to enrich the
experience our Sixth Formers
gain from their time with us.
