Minutes of the Medical Education Foundation for Arkansas Board of Directors Meeting Alan K. Wilson, MD, President T May 5, 2017 he Medical Education Foundation for Arkansas (MEFFA) Board of Directors met at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. Members present were Drs. Alan Wilson, Jim Citty, G. Edward Bryant, Scott Cooper, James Graham and Ms. Kathleen Connery. David Wroten and Penny Henderson, Arkansas Medical Society, also attended the meeting. The following business was received and transacted: 1. Minutes of the April 22, 2016 meeting were approved. 2. The Board re-elected current officers for 2017-2018: Alan Wilson, MD – President Jim Citty, MD – Vice President Steve Magie, MD – Secretary/Treasurer 3. The Board reviewed financial information and 2016 tax return. 4. Prior year contributions were reviewed. 5. The Board discussed funding requests for 2017-2018 and approved the following requests from UAMS (total awarded - $23,197.00): $ 2,500.00 COM Curriculum – Support for the annual Teach the Teacher Conference $ 475.00 Neuropathology – Neuropathology project on Cadaver Brains in the M1 Brain and Behavior (B & B) course $ 6,000.00 Food as Medicine – Introduction of medical students to the concept of Culinary Medicine (“Food as Medicine”) through two didactic lectures and a “hands on” three-hour cooking session where they will prepare a healthy meal at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute of Arkansas, Little Rock $11,222.00 Suturing Curriculum – purchase reusable simulated suturing skins and dedicated suturing instruments to support a new longitudinal suturing curriculum for M1 and M2 medical students to ensure that each student learns those basic skills needed by the time they enter their third-year clinical rotations and the vast majority of residencies they may enter $ 3,000.00 AMS Distinguished Lecture Series – grants of $1,000 for each of the following speakers: • Dana Gaddy, PhD, Professor, Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences at Texas A&M University.
