NO MAN IS AN

ISLAND

Diya Tess Jacson ( 9B )
No man is an island entire of itself , Every man is a piece of the continent ,
A part of the main .
What does this phrase mean ? This means that nobody is completely self-reliant , everyone relies on others . We all need help sometimes and everybody necessarily depends on one another . This saying appears in a book by John Donne written in the 17th century . A human is a social being , we need interaction and contact in order to thrive . Human beings depend on each other as if you can ’ t expect to do every single thing by yourself with no help whatsoever , that is simply unrealistic . Our brains are wired to socialize and we need this interaction to maintain our state of mind .
What this means to me is that every action we do , every choice we make affects other people in some way just like how it affects us . Never
think that you live in some sort of isolated island where your actions don ’ t have their own consequences because they do ! Every person ’ s existence affects another for instance when a person is angry his anger affects his relationships with other people . Or when someone posts a mean comment people may get hurt or offended by that . Hate only breeds more hate , violence only invites more violence !
We are victims of a great pandemic where people are kept isolated from one another in order to be safe . We are slowly starting to see the effects of isolation on our minds . And truly no man is an island , even a single person ’ s death from the virus is a loss to humanity . Keep each other safe . Don ’ t forget that you can be a hero just by sitting at home , washing your hands and wearing a mask . One person getting ill can endanger the lives of everyone around us . To conclude , be mindful of your thoughts and actions .
