Riya was hurrying on her way to school . She had prepared a speaking test for her English class where her teacher wanted everyone to speak about an incident where they got a chance to help others . Riya began her speaking test , “ Yesterday , as I was passing the Zoo to come to school , I noticed a small group of people sitting on the street outside the zoo . They seemed poor . Their clothes were dirty and torn . They seemed hungry and the children were crying . I felt sad inside .

When I came home after school , I told my mother about them and asked her what we could do to help them . My mother told me to stay away from those people , but I really wanted to help them . My mother sternly said “ No !” and that it was not safe .
I could not stop thinking about them even in my sleep ! The following morning when I was having my breakfast , I took two pieces of toast from the plate and hid them in my school bag . I went to school ten minutes early so that I could give the toast to the beggars . I ran nearly two blocks from my house to the city zoo . I saw them there and gave them the toast .
They looked surprised and happy . I looked at them with a big smile on my face . They gave the toast to the children and an elder from the group came to me and said , “ Dear girl , you have blessed us all with your kindness and generosity . God will bless you greatly .” I was delighted to hear this and I thought , “ It just took two slices of bread to bring so much happiness .”
