I have an old pearl necklace of my great grandmother which has of lately started
cracking, what is wrong with the pearls? – KM
Dear KM, There is nothing wrong with the pearls. Pearls are organic in nature and
hence if proper care is not taken, they will start to get damaged. If you are storing
your pearls in any plastic pouches or in any air tight pouches, I suggest to remove
them from such pouches immediately. Wipe your pearl necklace with a dry muslin
cloth, keep a small glass or water where you store your pearls. Pearls need moisture
to keep their beauty lasting long. Avoid using any chemical including make-up,
cream, perfume on your pearls. The damaged pearls cannot be repaired but we can
always prevent it from deteriorating further.
