The
origin and journey of Temple Jewellery
dates back to several centuries and
according to some of the present day manufacturers
it is as old as the ninth century. This type of jewellery obviously
derived the name from their purpose that they adorned the deities in
the temples. They stand as a significant expression of our aesthetic
and cultural history. The Chola and Pandya dynasty of Tamilnadu, the
Wodeyars of Mysore, the Krishnadevaraya dynasty, various temples of
South India and Central India, Bengal and Odisha were home to a variety
of striking jewellery with intricate design. They were connoisseurs of
jewellery crafting and housed skilled artisans in well equipped workshops.
