WHERE LEARNING Comes Alive
HOW THE CHS LEARNING FRAMEWORK EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO WONDER, CREATE, REFLECT, AND GROW
Grade 4 students step back in time as citizens of Barkerville in the 1800s, navigating the logistics and log cabins that go with that era. Senior School students work together, blending their skill sets to build something from nothing: a robot that can climb a pole.
In each learning experience at Crofton House, there are relationships to build, perspectives to consider, and opportunities to grow. Alongside developing knowledge and skills— from scientifi c vocabulary to historical context— teachers invite students to engage with care, curiosity, and purpose. With Crofton House School’ s Learning Framework, the whole community is asked to look beyond content and focus on something deeper.
Introduced this year, the framework articulates how Crofton House has long approached teaching and learning across the School. It reflects our commitment to girlcentred learning, to the development of the whole girl, and to learning experiences that are meaningful, student-centred, and collaborative. It also refl ects our commitment to agility by emphasizing knowledge, collaboration, and experimentation as essential to adaptability, enabling deep learning for students and staff, and supporting continuous schoolwide growth.
At the heart of the Learning Framework is a clear understanding of how girls learn best: by feeling seen and valued, being encouraged to take risks and ask bold questions, taking ownership of their learning, and working together to explore, create, and innovate. The framework is built on the belief that belonging, agency, and competence are the foundation of deeper learning, and that a growth mindset helps students persevere through challenges, from strengthening understanding to building resilience.
Across the Junior and Senior Schools, there are many examples of deeper learning coming to life.

In the Junior School, we are committed to nurturing every aspect of growth and development in our young learners during these foundational years. Good schools make intentional decisions that optimize learning and growth at this important stage, and the CHS Learning Framework reflects that commitment. It does not represent a shift in how we educate; rather, it offers a clear, comprehensive articulation of what we know helps children flourish. It brings clarity for students, teachers, and families, outlining the skills, the competencies, and the rich learning experiences our young learners need to thrive today and in the years ahead.
We know that girls see and understand the world through a deeply relational lens. This informs how they connect with themselves, with one another, with their teachers, and with their learning. Each day, we strive to create an environment that is designed specifically for our learners, nurturing connection, curiosity, and student voice. In this setting, students learn to think critically and creatively, collaborate with others, and
