SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
The Skiing and Snowboarding Club brought students to Grouse Mountain— snow permitting— for fresh air, challenge, and fun. Once up Grouse, the experience was student-driven, with small groups choosing their own routes and pace. Open to all experience levels, students in Grade 8 – 12 built confidence on the slopes while sharing in the excitement of five evenings on the mountain together.
“ Coming from the Junior School last year, I didn’ t actually have many activities in Senior School yet. I think that this is fun because you get to go up to a mountain, a different place than just staying at CHS. It’ s really fun to do something active that’ s not on campus,” said Capri, Grade 8.“ I liked the teacher sponsors, I liked the energy, I liked the mountain. I liked the food there. It was really nice!”
It was a perfect opportunity for cross-grade bonding and connection, too.“ By joining ski and snowboard, it propelled me to meet students in other grades more naturally— even just speaking with them about a common interest!” said Verina, Grade 9.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
Based in the Fitness Centre, the Strength & Conditioning Club brought students together to build healthy habits, confidence, and strength in a supportive environment. Over three months, students met weekly with Ms Hol, Assistant Department Head, Physical Health & Education, Senior School, and Mr Morey, Teacher, Physical & Health Education, Senior School, to set goals, learn proper techniques, and create personalized training plans that reflected their individual journeys. With access to the Fitness Centre throughout the week, students continued to build on their progress independently, returning at the end of the term to reflect on how far they had come and celebrate their growth.
“ I joined the Strength & Conditioning( S & C) Club, looking for a place where I could exercise and build my body strength without having to be sporty or skilled. I wanted to be part of something that was more about growth than competitiveness, and I think S & C was exactly that,” said Cynthia, Grade 8.“ All the members of the club, both teachers and students, were so welcoming and non-judgmental, and that made me want to continue being a part of the club.”
Open to all fitness levels, the program empowered each student to set goals that felt meaningful to them. This personalized approach allowed everyone to challenge themselves at their own pace, supported and encouraged by both peers and coaches along the way.
“ The S & C Club has had a great impact on my confidence,” Cynthia said. Through the continuous support of teachers and the real, measurable progress made, I now feel more confident to stretch myself and explore more athletic activities outside of my comfort zone.”
While the review focused on Athletics, it reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the overall co-curricular program to better support the diverse interests of our students. The School remains committed to continually reviewing and centring student needs and interests.
