We recognize the life of Mr Robert Will , a lifelong learner and educator , with multi-generational ties to Crofton House . Mr Will ’ s daughters and grandaughters attended Crofton House and he served on the School ’ s Board of Governors for many years .
ROBERT ( BOB ) MILTON WILL ( APRIL 23 , 1931 – NOVEMBER 5 , 2023 )
Born and raised on a pioneer farm in Ontario , Robert graduated as a gold medallist from the University of Western Ontario in 1953 , and later from Duke University where he received a PhD in economics . Upon graduation from Duke in 1957 , he joined the faculty of UBC where he remained until his retirement in 1996 . In recognition of Robert ’ s dedication to excellence in teaching , and of the many years he spent as a member of the UBC Senate , and as Dean of the Faculty of Arts ( 1975 – 89 ), he was awarded the President ’ s Anniversary Medal for Distinguished Service .
Service to the community included membership on the Board of Trustees of St . Paul ’ s Hospital ( 1978 – 1991 ) and the Board of Governors of Crofton House School ( 1980 – 1988 ). He also volunteered at St . Vincent ’ s Langara Hospital , where he provided leadership in establishing a residents ’ Family Council .
Robert ’ s two daughters , Gillian Will ’ 90 and the late Andrea Will ’ 83 , attended CHS , as did his two granddaughters , Isabelle Reynolds ’ 21 and Georgia Reynolds ’ 23 .
