“ I felt a strong sense of community and support from my peers and teachers , which made me feel right at home , despite the initial challenges ,” Tahira shared . One of the most supportive aspects of the CHS community was her teachers , and Tahira noted how helpful they were , in both her personal and academic life .
“ I ’ ve learned here to always ask for help . It ’ s not shameful , nor does it imply that you ’ re incomplete . Rather , it ’ s about reaching out to people — because they are always there to assist you . If they can ’ t help directly , they ’ ll connect you with someone who has the resources . We have a lot of resources at CHS !”
Inspired by her own positive experiences with Student Services , she became involved in the Peer
Support program , meeting and supporting other Senior School students . “ Student Services was really helpful . You just go to chat or debrief , and I like that experience . When I was talking with Ms Hong , Personal Counsellor , Senior School , it was always in my mind that I wished I could help other students . When the opportunity for peer listening came , I was so excited ,” said Tahira . She reflected that , through this program , she was not only able to help other students , but she also gained selfcompassion .
Tahira is looking forward to attending the UBC in the fall to study science . After two years , she plans to switch to the nursing program and then apply to medical school . Tahira will be attending UBC having received the university ’ s Vantage One Excellence
Award that will cover her tuition and many of her living expenses . She is excited about what is ahead . “ I am doing an international program , as I got an international scholarship . So I am really excited to meet new people and learn more .”
Reflecting on her time at CHS , Tahira expressed : “ This experience was lifechanging for me . I cannot imagine if I was not in Crofton House . It changed my entire life . I ’ m glad that CHS gave me this opportunity .”
We are grateful to Women Leaders of Tomorrow , and to the CHS families who generously opened their homes to these remarkable young women .
We also wish to thank everyone — staff , parents and friends of CHS — who have been involved in supporting these students in the last two years in a multitude of ways . Your kindness and generosity reflect our shared values and commitment to girls ’ education .
