SO MANY SONGS, SO MANY STORIES

Music is something magical that can disconnect us from the world. Listening to music can change our mood or just simply keep us company when we aren’t feeling well. There are many great songs throughout history, songs that touch our heart, or those that we simply listen to when we’re hanging out with our friends. Songs tell stories we can relate to – millions of them. They say that many composers get inspiration from real life experiences. I guess that’s why it’s so hard to be able to pick out just one song.
I think that a song can become our favorite because we hear it at a time of our lives when we say, “That’s just what I feel right now.” So, if I had to pick out a song today and call it my favorite, it would be Breakaway, performed by Kelly Clarkson.
The song tells the story of a girl who’s grown up in a small town and who’s mature enough to spread her wings and leave the nest. She says that it’s not an easy step to take but that it’s worth taking the chance to try to find a place of our own in this world. And that’s just it. I had lived in a small town for six years before coming to Rosario and it was a big sacrifice to leave everyone back home and start a new life on my own. We can clearly see that that’s what Kelly means on the following lines of her song: “Grew up in a small town, and when the rain would fall down I´d just stare out my window, dreaming of what could be, and if I´d end up happy… Wanted to belong here, but something felt so wrong here, so I prayed I could break away…” I believe that Breakaway is a song which many of us, students, can relate to.
Breakaway inspires me
I believe that Kelly and her song can inspire everyone to follow their dreams. She’s a clear example of this. As she came from a poor family, she fought hard to change her life. She won one of the seasons of American Idol and fulfilled her dream of becoming a singer. We can find a connection between this and the following lines of Breakaway: “I´ll spread my wings and I´ll learn how to fly. I´ll do what it takes till I touch the sky. I´ll make a wish, take a chance, make a change, and break away.” She’s a true fighter who has been able to reach what she always wanted.
Kelly Clarkson inspires me. Breakaway inspires me whenever I listen to it. It makes me feel strong even though I miss my family, my pets, my home and my friends very much, and it helps me understand that although it’s hard, there comes a time when we all have to begin our own journey. As the song goes,
“Out of the darkness and into the sun, but I won´t forget all the ones that I love. I´ll take a risk, take a chance and break away.”
