DOES CLASSICAL MUSIC ENHANCE BRAINPOWER?

By Javier Arino

It’s been said that classical music stimulates the brain to perform different tasks. If this is so, what can we use it for?

For a long time classical music has been used in classes - because it has positive effects on people’s emotions and creativity. It’s also effective for learning and retaining information.

Classical music has a lot to offer to animals - improving welfare, relieving stress and redressing behavioral modification. Even students in their houses use it while studying for better concentration. There’s one composer in particular whose music is used to achieve these effects, and he’s Mozart.

This artist was Austrian but his work has spread all over the world. Nowadays, scientists are researching into its effects, which are mentioned above, and which have been proved to be true so far. And it’s not just one piece, but his entire work that does the trick.

Apart from these effects, Mozart’s music is peaceful and relaxing, inspiring and vibrant, smooth and colorful. In my particular case, I do love to listen to it.

On the other hand, Mozart’s music has a negative side, too, as everything does. Even Mozart can be too much of a good thing. That’s why it’s recommended not to listen to his music for over 30 minutes for best results.

With these notions in mind, if you are seeking for music to enrich your ears, improve your performance while studying or working, or just to relax, give Mozart a try and see what happens. Who knows? You may end up loving classical music.
