Summer Reading Challenge
Suffolk Libraries is reminding families across the county that this year ’ s Summer Reading Challenge is here !
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and helps to get three quarters of a million children into libraries across the country . The number of children taking part in Suffolk has been increasing year on year since 2013 . This year ’ s theme is ‘ Mischief Makers ’, inspired by the much-loved iconic children ’ s title The Beano , which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year .
It ’ s a fun and engaging way of encouraging children to keep reading during the long summer holidays when reading can dip if they don ’ t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure . The campaign is produced by the Reading Agency and delivered by libraries .
The idea is for young children to read six library books of their choice and collect special stickers and other incentives along the way . Children can sign up at the library for free and there are various special Summer Reading sessions and activities at various libraries during the holidays . For more

The Summer Reading Challenge is also running at the two weekly Suffolk Libraries Local sessions in Shotley and Rushmere . Plus , Suffolk Libraries will also again be running ‘ ImagiNation ’, alongside the Summer Reading Challenge - an arts and literature activity for young people aged 10-18 encouraging them to express their reaction to a book they ’ ve read through their own artwork .
In 2017 the number of children taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge in Suffolk were the highest ever – 8,362 . This was the fifth consecutive year this number increased and children taking part last year also read over 85,000 books and nearly 2,300 registered for their first library card . The Summer Reading Challenge really can make a difference to children ’ s reading and literacy skills .
Krystal Vittles , Suffolk Libraries Development Manager and Children ’ s Lead , said : “ The Summer Reading Challenge can make a difference to a child ’ s literacy skills at an important time in their development and we ’ ve been thrilled to see more and more children taking part every year .”
There is no other free reading activity that involves so many children , introduces families to their library , encourages children to choose books freely and independently and

There may be some of you who currently have a mortgage that is on a tracker or a variable rate and are thinking about moving your mortgage to a fixed rate , but are unsure
With all the changes that are happening and concerns surrounding Brexit , we have noticed that interest rates have started to creep up , with another increase in the Bank of England Base Rate being discussed .
This is where fixed rates are really beneficial as they give you financial security during economically unstable times . We have noticed that all our clients are now coming to us asking about fixed rates as they want to make sure they are financially stable during this time .
This is because with a fixed rate , whether you chose to fix for a 2 , 3 , 5 or even 10 years , your interest rate will remain the same throughout this period . This means that should interest rates rise , your monthly payments will is endorsed by parents , teachers and the Department for Education . What is the benefit of a fixed rate mortgage ?

remain the same as they were on day 1 of your mortgage .
Now although the stability of a fixed rate may appeal to you , many of you may be wondering what would happen if you wanted to repay some of your mortgage or move home within the fixed period .
Although a fixed rate does have charges should you want to repay your mortgage in full , with most fixed rate mortgages you can still ‘ overpay ’ up to 10 % of the balance per year without incurring any charges .
These over payments come straight off the balance of your mortgage and are not subject to any interest .
However , if you wanted to move home , you would look at porting your mortgage . This basically means you move the mortgage that is on your current property , to the new one .
Obviously a fixed rate may not be the best option for everyone however , if you are interested in finding out more about fixed interest rates and in particular what fixed rates are available to you , we are more than happy to help .
