Types of contraceptives available and their effectiveness as their information In this essay we will describe the different methods for contraception as also their effectiveness against pregnancy. During this partial we learned a lot of contraceptives which are also known as birth control methods; some are: abstinence, vasectomy, IUD, diaphragm, birth pill, condom, creams and the natural family planning. Each and every one of these have their own instructions for use and if used correctly then you will obtain the correct average efficiency that the method can warranty you. Some are very confident or reliable and some are just average. Some contraceptives are for preventing fertilization, for preventing ovulation or for preventing implantation which is only the IUD method. The first contraceptives that will be described are for preventing fertilization and such are divided by two types, the surgical methods and the physical or chemical barriers. The surgical methods are the vasectomy, where vasa deferentia are cut, and the tubal ligation, where oviducts are cut. In both vasectomy and tubal ligation, a person will have a 99% of effectiveness against pregnancy or even almost 100%. The physical barriers are: condoms, diaphragms and cervical caps. These contraceptives give us between 85% and 90% of effectiveness. The chemical barriers, are substances that will kill sperm, that’s why they are called spermicides. Spermicides are about 75% effective. Nowadays there are many contraceptive methods, some prevent female ovulation, this kind of methods usually is very effective. What this kind of contraceptive methods do is to avoid the ovulation at a certain time in a female’s body and allow her to have sexual relations without getting pregnant. The most known contraceptive methods that prevent ovulation are: Birth control pills, implants and injections; all these methods are hormonal kind. Injections are one of the most effective methods with a 99% of effectiveness, it inject hormones and cause anterior pituitary to not release FSH and LH. Implants are also good but its effectiveness is of >90%, what this method do is implant tubes of progestin under skin and avoid anterior pituitary to release FSH and LH.
