Smoking Effects On The Body
Smoking is one of the various ways to damage your body; it consists of
inhaling and exhaling fumes from tobacco. This started many years ago
(near the 1500’s) and hasn’t stopped since.
Facts:
•
Many people believe
that smoking
relieves them from
stress.
•
It doesn’t only affect
the respiratory
system; it affects
other parts of the
body making cancer
easier to happen.
•
People believe that
smoking keeps them
warm, it doesn’t.
What carcinogens are found in the cigarette smoke?
Smoking doesn’t only affect the one doing it; it also affects the people
that inhale the fumes. This happens because of the many carcinogens
(“substance that causes a series of genetic alterations to occur that lead
to the formation of cancerous growths” - eHow) found in them. There
is a vast list of carcinogens found in cigarette smoke and some of them
include: Benzene, TSNAs, Pesticides, Arsenic, Cadmium, Ammonia,
Carbon Monoxide, Nicotine, and so much more.
How can smoking affect your respiratory system?
There are many ways in which smoking can affect your body in a
negative way. The respiratory system is the most affected organ system
in our body. It can irritate the trachea and the larynx, causing difficulty
in eating and breathing, it also causes coughing. It may start causing
difficulties when doing exercise, people start feeling more tired and
getting less air. It also causes and excess amount of mucus in the lungs
blocking the air that is being breathed, it also can cause lung cancer,
which can’t be cured.
