my
study
abroad
experience
/ BY FRANCESCA DUAH
What's the process of successfully
gaining admission to study in
France?
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a Ghanaian student and
recently completed a
Master’s Degree at University
Paris-Saclay (France) in
Territory Governance,
Environment and Risk
Management, a
pluridisciplinary course
focusing on Sustainable
Development, Health, Safety
and Environment and Risk
management as a whole.
I had my first degree from
the University of Cape Coast
and was a Teaching Assistant
(TA) in French at the
University of Ghana and
Administrative Assistant at
Campus France Ghana. I am
passionate about music and
have started a ministerial
programme dubbed « AFM
edification ».
Why did you choose to study in France?
I first came to France for
a year abroad as part of
the french course during
my undergraduate
studies. I saw the year
abroad as an opportunity
to explore and experience
another culture. It was
also an opportunity to
experience the european
educatioanl system.
The year abroad
experience and finding a
Master’s degree program
in line with my
professional ambition
aside, France was my
number 1 choice because
of the reasonable
university fees.
P.S. Kindly note that
there will be a possibility
of fees increment in the
years to come.
The first step is choosing the
school you want to go to.
Whether you are applying for a
diploma, first degree, master’s or
doctorate programme, you have
to ask yourself these simple and
basic questions:
1. What? What do I want to study?
What are my goals? What are the
job opportunities?
2. Where? Which possible
countries, towns, and universities
do I want to go to?
3. When? Do you want to start the
course in the following year?
When is the admission process
starting? Some academic
institutions open their application
as early as September of the
previous year ( i.e. September
2019 if the course start in
September 2020).
4. Why? do I want this
programme, university, city,
country.
