THE INFLUENCE OF WELL-KNOWN ARTIST WORK ON GAME DESIGN | Page 17

Binaries

The game Binaries that it was recently came out on Steam and it was also tested back in the event EGX Rezzed on April 2016. This is a puzzle game about controlling two different colour balls at the same time to go through different shaped obstacles (Binaries, Digital Game, 2016).

The reason for Binaries to be put in this paper because the email question to support the research was sent to Tony Gowland the game designer and the founder of Ant-Workshop that made the game (Binaries, Digital Game, 2016).

The email question was:

What type of art movement did Binaries got inspired by?

His response he quoted:

“Thanks for your enquiry about the art style of Binaries. I wasn’t really inspired by a specific art movement when making the game (Gowland, email, 2016). I knew I wanted it to be clean, with sharp lines (as opposed to a chunky pixellated look that a lot of indie games aim for)(Gowland, email, 2016). As the game is based around two circles I focussed on geometric shapes for the background patterns - progressing from triangles in the opening levels through to circles at the end - with gradients to add detail where needed.”(Gowland, email, 2016).
