27th to 30th October 2005 at the National Musuem of Australia in Canberra. Creating Pathways was funded by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board and the Dance Board of Australia Council and was organised by Ausdance National.
As the national peak body for Indigenous dance in Australia, they are here to serve the Indigenous dance communities by supporting your needs through programs and advocacy. BlakDance’s programs are designed through consultation with Indigenous communities to address issues in their regions.
BlakDance is Indigenous led, has an innovative and culturally driven governance structure (Elders, Peers, Members, Board, Management), and is a trusted source of Indigenous dance advocacy and support in Australia.
They play a critical role in brokering partnerships between Indigenous dance communities and presenters, policy makers, audiences, and stakeholders, and
provide Indigenous led leadership.
BlakDance Executive Producer, Merindah Donnelly and the Team say "we are humbled by the founations our Elders have laid for us, we carry the responsibility and obligation of furture generations with great respect and we honour their work in pioneering BlakDance as we know it today in Australia. We're standing on the shoulders of giants. We can't wait for the National Indigenous Dance Forum, held as part of Yirramboi First Nationas Arts Festival. We look forward to working more broadly with our dance communities over the next four years, as the national peak body for Indigenous dance"
