The Indie Game Magazine September 2014 | Issue 41 | Page 6

EDITORIAL Happy Six Month Anniversary! Wow, can you believe The Indie Game Magazine relaunched a full six months ago? Pretty wild, how fast time flies. It’s been an amazing half-year, and every six months starting now, I’d like to use this editorial space to give the IGM audience an idea of where the Magazine is headed. I think we’ve grown a lot in our first six issues - and I’ve personally learned a ton about the business side of things - but as always, there is of course room for improvement. When we first relaunched the Magazine, I had a rule about only reviewing games that weren’t released yet. Growing up reading my favorite gaming Mags like Electronic Gaming Monthly and Game Informer, I was trained to think a Magazine should always be looking towards the future, instead of the present or past. But I’ve realized these past few months that indies play by their own rules, and we should be more accommodating of that. Most indie devs don’t finish their game until the week, if not day, before it releases. Thus far, that’s made a lot of games ineligible for Magazine review. Going forward, that’s not going to be the case. Starting with our October issue, we’re going to consider games released during the previous month for review as well. That way, we can consider more games. Now before anyone panics and says the Magazine is going to be filled with “old news” going forward, let me also add that I’m looking to expand our Magazine coverage and introduce a new type of content called “Extended Previews.” While our typical previews are only a page long, these Extended Previews will take a Review-length (2-page) look at exciting games either coming soon, or in Early Access on Steam. You’ll notice this issue includes three Extended Previews, and only a single Review. I wanted to wheel out the new segment to get everyone excited, before settling in to the new format. As promised, thanks to your awesome support so far, we’re able to expand the Magazine’s length and include some extra coverage of additional indies. You’ll notice all of this starting next month. Of course, with even more support, who knows what other cool stuff we can add to the Mag! (Well, I know… but it‘s a secret for now.) If anyone has any questions, or suggestions for new segments you’d like to see included in future issues, feel free to let me know at [email protected]. Here’s to another wonderful six months! Thanks so much for the support everyone, I can’t wait to improve IGM even further as we head towards the new year. Vinny Parisi Editor-in-Chief Indie Armada Fleet Admiral
