TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MAY BE A PLEASANT SURPRISE
Many California Republicans woke up on Nov . 9 to a feeling of pride — even joy for some — and certainly hope that the next four years under a President Trump will be a marked improvement over the past eight years of sclerotic , big-government federal regulation and over-reaching by a liberal administration seeking to govern every aspect of our lives .
Conversely , nowhere was the shock of the upset Trump victory more keenly felt than in the twin California power centers of Silicon Valley and Hollywood . In the Kubler-Ross model of stages of grief , many liberal Californians are still stuck in denial / bargaining , while others are suffering from depression .
If you ’ re upset by the election , but coping well , and have made it to the acceptance stage , then there is much to look forward to in the Trump administration .
First , as any good conservative knows , the principle of federalism — oversimplified to “ states ’ rights ” — means that the federal government can change laws and regulations in areas over which the federal government has jurisdiction , but cannot reach into California to change our laws . If you love your plastic bag bans , your burdensome and metastasizing California wage-and-hour laws , your overstuffed public pension system , your high-speed rail boondoggle , your catch-and-release program for criminals — don ’ t worry . The Trump administration won ’ t touch these California hallmarks ( much to the chagrin of California Republicans ).
