Beauty & the Beast at YPT
In a brilliant off-Broadway performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Young People’s
Theatre in Toronto, a full diverse cast featuring, among others, Andrew Prashad (of Guyanese
parentage), Stewart Adam McKensy and Celine Tsai, had audiences in rapture at the opening night
on November 9. The heroine of the story, the smart and independent Belle (Tsai), sacrifices to save
her father who is the captive of a dreadful beast (McKensy) by trading places with him. While
trapped together in an enchanted palace, both the bookish beauty and the cursed beast come to see
in each other what no one else can – their true and authentic selves. is filled with unforgettable char-
acters, lavish sets and costumes, and dazzling production numbers including “Be Our Guest” and
the beloved title song.
Beauty & the Beast runs nightly to December 6 and is perfect for ages 5 and up.
