Joy Oladokun turns inward while opening up her musical world on Hope Is A Heavy Thing, a deeply personal new album built around the difficult work of finding something worth believing in when hope itself can feel exhausting.
The12-song collection follows 2024’s Observations From A Crowded Room and grew out of a period of burnout for Oladokun. At the center of the album is a simple idea: understanding where you’re going sometimes requires confronting where you’ve been. Oladokun wrote the songs as she worked to find her way back toward the light, examining identity, connection, self-discovery and what it means to remain hopeful during uncertain times.
