Americana folk band with roots in bluegrass and country

Wookalily a feisty all-female ensemble armed with ten instruments and a knack for mischief.

Imagine this: five women, each a virtuoso in her own right, weaving together a sonic tapestry so captivating it’ll leave you wondering where your sanity ends and the magic begins.

Their arsenal? Four-part harmonies, low-bowed double bass, fluttering flutes, ‘offbeat’ drums, the spirited twang of banjo and a whole menagerie of other instruments including guitars, pianos and mandolins. If it makes noise and fits on stage, they’ll play it.

But it’s not just about the instruments—it’s the music. Original tunes blend toe-tapping fun with soul-stirring introspection, one minute you’ll be up dancing and the next pondering life’s great mysteries. Their debut album, ‘All The Waiting While’ was a playful romp through folk with a bluegrass twist, while their follow-up, ‘Everything is NormaL Except the Little Things Inside My Head’ took a darker turn. Recorded with award-winning producer Julie McLarnon on analogue tape for that extra dose of vintage warmth.

Wookalily’s music dares to blur the lines between genres, mixing folk with a dash of psychedelia and a pinch of irreverence. If you’re up for music that defies explanation, turns a deaf ear to trends, and is unapologetically original, then heed the wooka’s beckoning.
