by Graham Sclater

Canadian born, Shania Twain was born Eileen Regina Edwards in August 1965, and having sold more than 1000 million records credits her as being the best-selling female country music artist in history and her title Queen of Country. In 1991 she was offered a recording contract and when signed to Mercury Nashville Records she changed her name. Unfortunately, her first album was a failure. But producer Rober John “Mutt” Lange, who worked with Zomba and Jive Records heard her first album and loved her voice and so, they began work on her second album. They were married on 28th December 1993 and her second album, The Woman in Me was released in 1995 and many of her hits were co-written with her producer and husband “Mutt” Lange. The album sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, with eight singles which made her a worldwide recording star.

Her third studio album, Come On Over was released in 1997, was the best-selling studio album by a female act in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time, selling over 40 million copies worldwide. Come On Over produced twelve singles, including You're Still the One, From This Moment On, That Don't Impress Me Much and Man! I Feel Like a Woman! and earned Twain four Grammy Awards. In 1999 Billboard magazine touted Shania Twain ad the most played artists on US radio.

Sadly, in 2004 she was diagnosed with Lyme disease and dysphonia which caused serious problems to her voice and her rehabilitation took many years. She made a comeback in 2012 when she released her first single in seven years, Today is Your Day and her autobiography, From This Moment On.

In June 2010 she divorced her husband and it was five more years before she released her album Now which was in fact to be her first album in seventeen years.

She has received so many accolades there are almost too many

to mention but worth mentioning is she had received five

Grammy Awards, is the only female artist in history to have

three consecutive albums certified Diamon by the RIAA as well

as being recognised on both the Canadian and Hollywood

Walk of Fame.
