The Hootananny Belladrum Festival Potting Shed Stage this year celebrates its 10 appearance, always organised by Highland Roots Music Presenter Promoter Publicist (and worldwide stravaiger) Rob Ellen from Medicine Music who was instrumental in establishing the first Belladrum 4 years previously.
Rob says “We are delighted to be back home at Belladrum after visiting and working on so many festivals across Europe and Stateside I’m very proud to report it is by far and a way the best family run family festival I’ve ever been to. I’m so proud to be bringing The Pottingshed Stage to Belladrum for the 10th time. We thanks all the artists from all around the world as well as all around the Highlands who have played our stage over the years, with special thanks to Clancy & Steve Squarethings Macdonald (enjoy your retirement) and Hootananny Inverness without whom we just would not have managed to sustain this magic little corner of this most magical Festival. It has become a real family fold of friends, and offers a meeting point in the Highlands for independently minded musicians and a valuable Festival platform for their art.
The unique atmosphere of The Potting Shed stage has organically grown out of this fellowship of independently minded music from across the planet and I think has helped everyone who wants to travel with their music, to do so, I know its helped me and The Moose get around on both sides of the pond.
This 10th year we have concentrated on bringing back many of the artists that have done so well for us over the years, so much so the wndrfl Cousti early days favourites, have reformed especially (after the passing of Bass player and our sadly missed friend Bill Blakey) to head up a spectacular line up. We are dedicating the weekend to Billy and other friends we have lost over the last 10 years. We also welcome back from the USA I See Hawks in LA, (co Headliners) Libby Koch, Rachel Laven, Patterson Barrett to be reunited with Scottish Country Soul kings The New Madrids who he appeared on the mains stage a couple of years ago in the company of tex- mex queen Stephanie Urbina Jones. We are this year introducing ex Rodeo champ. Lion Taming, Buddhist Monk, Songster, Bill Bloomer and Cajun luminary Brian Langlinais. We have the usual crew in Fash Stewart & Darren Poyzer our comperes beyond compare, Musicians in Residence will be Matt Morrow (Guitars) Pigman (Harmonica) Charlie the Hat (Drums) Calum MacLeod (Bass) and delighted to say Thurso’s then boy wonder, now resident to the South Of France Isaac Sutherland will be coming back to supply electrifying string accompaniments (Isaac and his late father supplied PA and good vibes to the stage in the first 5 years) we will be remembering Johnny Fats as the weekend unfolds too I am sure.
No Scottish Anarcho Folk Festival
this year, so we brought it to Belladrum.
As a special feature this year we bring Scottish Anacho Folk Festival founders James 'Bar' Bowen and Johnny Campbell and some regular participants to Belladrum for the first time and they have included our own Sara Bills and The Hasbeens and my own Slim Panatellas (If heard they are very good) into The Anarcho Revue, an afternoon of beyond the agenda protest on Friday.
"Bob Plays The Sweetest Tunes"
We thank our sponsors Belladrum Festival of course, Hootananny The Highlands leading live music venue, Speyside Craft Brewery for the hospitality stage beer, The Eagle Sessions in Forres for The Medicine Show Radio Moose Mobile Stage PA and as ever for in my opinion the best sound system and crew working in Scotland, our old old friend Substation of Fife who have been my partners in sound for getting on for 35 years now (& remembering Jim Brennan too).
