Cricket and calypso book for schools
Cricket and Calypso go hand in hand in the West Indies ... the ties that bind if you will , arguably the only examples of Caribbean unity .
Trinidad and Tobago , as the land of calypso , where the famous art form was born , along with other West Indian countries , ha ve put forth over 215 cricketthemed calypsoes from 1926 to 2016 , all documented and published recently in a book entitled “ History of West Indies Cricket through Calypso ” researched and written by Nasser Khan , who resided in Toronto for two decades and played for Caribbean Limers during most of those years .
The book , a youth literacy and education initiative , traces the history of the West Indies cricket team through the lyrics of these calypsoes . It is an enthralling , educational and informative read , which under a youth literacy initiative backed by corporate sponsors NAGICO Insurances , all high schools and libraries in the region will receive copies .
