COMARRC ’ S INTRODUCTION

The war in Ukraine continues to dominate the geopolitical landscape and has thrust conventional warfare firmly to the fore as we witness the largest conflict in Europe since the Second World War . As the UK and the countries from around the Alliance continue to pledge support to Ukraine , the ARRC prepares with renewed vigour and focus on training to assume the NATO Response Force ( NRF ) as of the 1st January 2024 . Through a clearly defined training pathway , we will look to seize every opportunity to enhance our readiness prior to assuming what will be the final NRF rotation in light of NATO ’ s revised Long Term Commitment Plan .
Through the year , the HQ will be involved in several external exercises including Ex APOLO ( Portugal ), Ex ARRCADE LEDGER ( Germany ) and Ex DYNAMIC FRONT ( Denmark ) which , in addition to a host of internal exercises and academic periods , will ensure that we are best placed to assume the NRF role . 2023 will culminate with our CREVAL test exercise , Ex STEADFAST JUPITER 23 ( Romania ) which will accredit our ability to assume a spectrum of potential high-readiness operational roles including peace support operations and disaster relief .
I have once again been struck by the importance of our multi-nationality which is our greatest strength and from which we continue to cement existing relations and build new relationships with potential allies . As we progress through the transition to NRF 24 , I look to all the units and serving personnel of the wider ARRC group to continue the fantastic work already underway . If we are able to continue the pace of progress with which we have finished 2022 and started 2023 , I have no doubt that we will succeed in our evaluation later in the year . On behalf of all our staff , I also thank all the partners and families of our personnel ; your valued support and contribution cannot be understated . We have also been superbly well supported , as ever , by the local communities , for which we are most grateful .

The unfolding war in Ukraine provides us all with daily reminders of the very real threat posed by Russia . Moreover , it makes clear our purpose as service men and women . However , I truly believe that if we continue the hard work and stand united , we will be ready .

GETTING READY

As the HQ begins the training journey in preparation for its NATO Response Force validation exercise later in the year , the war in Ukraine continues as the Alliance ’ s immediate backdrop . It serves to provide focus and purpose for every member of the HQ whilst reinforcing the importance of individual and collective readiness , balanced with the capacity to adapt at short notice . As the COM has consistently reinforced , it is vital that we , all members of HQ ARRC are as ready and match fit as we can possibly be .
