10 SOLDIERS , 5 NATIONS , 1 GOAL :
Providing mutual training support to the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Greece
In late 2022 , ten members of the ARRC planning team deployed to Thessaloniki to provide mutual training support to NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Greece .
Exercise Gordian Knot 22 was NRDC Greece ’ s twelve-day major training event for 2022 in which 500 soldiers of NATO took part , seeing them operate in the Multi Corps Land Component Command Role .
HQ ARRC provided a large response cell in what was a large-scale computer assisted Exercise / Command Post Exercise . This allowed us to increase our interoperability and operational effectiveness within the alliance through providing support to four separate NATO Corps HQs .
The four NATO Corps HQs that were also present were NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain , Rapid Reaction Corps France , Multinational Corps Southeast and ARRC acting as warfighting corps . Each setting up a response cell to create an immersive and challenging exercise environment .
Our deployed soldiers operated in a separate HQ from the exercising troops to ensure that the highest quality of training was provided , and the illusion of distance was maintained . Training as we mean to fight is key to create effective forces at readiness .
Each response cell simulated a Corps HQ and as such each member got an opportunity to work outside of their usual role and gain a thorough understanding of how their HQ works .
“ ARRC is the ace in the commanders ’ pocket ! said Brigadier Juan Reyes ( ESP ), Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations of NRDC-GRC during a planning conference in the final phase of the exercise .
He elaborated further and said that the soldiers sent by ARRC further highlighted the HQ as a well-trained , effective , and capable warfighting corps . NRDC-GRC however trained their capability to coordinate multiple Corps in a land domain operation thereby playing an essential role

in NATO to provide stability , security , and peace .
The leader of the ARRC deployment , Col Jansohn , said “ The success of the exercise underpinned what NATO stands for , being a credible and capable Alliance , standing shoulder to shoulder together ready to defend itself from any possible threat .”
Overall Exercise Gordian Knot 22 proved to be a highly successful exercise for NATO . Not only were the exercising HQs able to test themselves but the response cells were able to test concepts and ways of working that could be used in future operations .

1 November 2022 saw the return of the Tri-Service Forces Strongman Competition , the first since the COVID-19 pandemic . A total of 24 contestants from across the Army and RAF came to Imjin Barracks to compete across five events to see who would be crowned the Forces Strongest Man / Woman 2022 .
The day started with a Farmers Walk for maximum distance , where a weight of between 50-90kg per hand was carried as far as possible within a 60 second time frame . This was followed by a deadlift ladder , a knockout event where an increasing weight was deadlifted until only one person remained . The third event was an Axle Bar floor to overhead press , requiring athletes to complete as many repetitions as possible within a minute , with the weight ranging from 40-85kg .
After a short lunch break , the penultimate event was a lifting medley , where a total of 6 items ( sandbags , monster dumbbells and metal logs ) had to be lifted overhead in as short a time as possible . The final event was a replica Dinnie Stone lift and static hold . This was a true test of both grip and mental strength , with the total weight ranging from 135-200kg .
