A fireworks display at Imjin Barracks
On the 6th Nov the Imjin Barracks gymnasium staff organised a fun filled evening for military personnel and their families . It was an event to bring together all nations from within the station to enjoy the magic of bonfire night . Imjin Barracks Welfare department kindly donated money towards the event which was used to provide food , drink and a spectacular firework display . On arrival each child received a sweet bag which lit up their already excited faces ! Other options for food were a hog roast , which came with all the trimmings , and an ice cream van to satisfy a sweet tooth . The main event - the firework display , was without a doubt , the highlight of everybody ’ s evening . The display was better than we imagined and was especially enjoyed by the children . To finish the evening off everyone retreated to the Sergeants ’ Mess where drinks and a few light-hearted games were had .
ONGOING GYM IMPROVEMENTS
Whilst the gymnasium at Imjin barracks has been upgraded , there is still lots of work to complete : The male and female changing rooms are being revamped and new TVs and LED lighting have been added . A new fob card system has also been installed and is now up and running for 24-hour access to the gymnasium . Please speak to the gym staff for more information .
This year the Support Battalion gym staff have been volunteering to help cadets from the Bristol University Officer Training Corps to prepare themselves for their future training at Sandhurst . This included two trips to ATC Pirbright to get to grips with the obstacle course . Day one was a teaching phase for the cadets , allowing them to learn and then practice the teamwork and leadership skills they will require in the field army . Day two consisted of a team competition involving an obstacle course race , command task , military skills , shooting and a swim test . Throughout , the gym staff were impressed by the enthusiasm and determination shown by all the cadets , which should stand them in good stead for their future Army careers .
Role Fitness Test Soldier ( RFT ( S ))
The British Army ’ s new Role Fitness Test is soon to replace the Annual Fitness Test ( AFT ). In a move away from old methods , the physical employment standards for the RFT are tailored to specific roles and are the same for all ages and genders . From the 1st April 2021 this will become a mandatory annual test that all soldiers must pass . The new test is longer with a much broader range of Representative Military Tasks ( RMT ) that need to be completed . These are aimed to more accurately test the types of physical activity soldiers conduct in the field . The staff in the gymnasium have been working hard to prepare all UK personnel at Imjin Barracks to be ready for this change , introducing them to each of the seven new tasks and conducting build-up training in preparation for testing .
More details on the RFT ( S ) are available at www . army . mod . uk / physicalemployment-standards / and by talking to your physical training instructors .
