How to maintain fitness during lockdown
Senior Physical Training Instructor, WO2 Bruce Bynorth
Now is a really important time to exercise and
get into a routine. Not only do you need to
keep your body moving to stay healthy while
cooped up inside, but the endorphins rush will
do wonders for your mental well-being.
Just because you don’t have loads of fancy
gym equipment doesn’t mean you can’t push
yourself.
Here at Imjin Barracks, we have an abundance
of outside areas which are ideal for keeping
active. We have unlocked the astro-turf area,
so feel free to use this for physical training for
yourself or with your family.
Many exercises require no equipment
whatsoever. For example, burpees are the
ultimate total body compound movement,
targeting everything from your arms and
chest to legs and core. Plus, they burn
calories like you wouldn’t believe!
Whatever you choose to do, set little
challenges each day, try to beat your
previous number and see just how much fitter
you get over time.
Stay safe when training and always warm up
properly and cool down.

a match played at Gloucester.
The Abingdon side emerged victorious during
the first round of the Army Rugby Union

The Javelins’ captain said: “It was an
outstanding effort from all the team in a hard-
fought match. Each and every one of our
players played for their team mates.”

Shooting Stars
The ARRC’s hockey team sits in third place in
the British Army’s ‘South Division Cup’ after
the latest round of matches in Aldershot.
The NATO players were almost assured of a
quarter-final place in the competition when
all unit hockey games were cancelled until
further notice due to COVID-19.
After the Aldershot matches, Brigadier
Richard Brown (pictured), tweeted: “Fantastic
effort from the @HQARRC team. We’ll be
there!”
Football
ARRC Athletic FC is recruiting 5-a-side
footballers to play friendly matches in the
Imjin Barracks gym.
The plan is to develop the side so that it can
be entered into a local 5-a-side league.
Potential signings, including any
internationals, should contact Major Rob
Kennerley (JFIB Branch).
Running off
The ‘This Mum Runs’ group is unable to meet due to COVID-19, but
