Broad Church – The 12th century church in Sevenhampton is ‘Grade I’ listed,
and contains many original features as well as some fine examples of
modern stained glass and furnishings.
Dally in the Valley
Our latest ‘ARRC Social Club’ walk is this
moderately easy route around the picturesque
villages of Brockhampton and Sevenhampton.
Hanna Dering reports.

The 4.5 mile (7 km) walk passes through a
conservation area within a sheltered valley of the
Cotswolds Hills, just 6 miles east of Cheltenham.

It was so nice to go walking with such lovely
company and beautiful views - just the perfect
way to relax and have fun. Better still, this 2-hour
walk starts and ends at a charming village pub.
The walk begins at The Craven Arms in
Brockhampton (postcode GL54 5XQ). Don’t
worry, you’ll be back here again before long!
Head eastwards out of the village for half a
kilometre, before taking a footpath across a
field. Continue southwest along the track to
Syreford for another 2km.
We now head back north as the tree-
lined footpath follows the River Coln
towards the village of Sevenhampton.
At this point the Coln is only a mile
from its source and It’s hard to imagine
that this shallow stream eventually
flows into the River Thames.
The main attraction in pretty
Sevenhampton is St Andrew’s Church
which dates from the 12th century.
This listed building sits in the northern
section of the village and it’s worth
exploring its many interesting features
which have been added over the years.
The final part of the walk is to continue along
the footpath back north towards neighbouring
Brockhampton village.
At the end some of us decided to enjoy
lunch at The Craven Arms, which can be
recommended for its very nice atmosphere
and delicious food!
