INNSWORTH STATION COMMUNITY – PAST EVENTS Innsworth Station Children’s Christmas Party On the 14th of December, the Welfare Elves & Santa Team (Jo, Sue, Dawn, Paul, Nick and Elisabetta), were led by WO2 Paul ‘The Grinch’ Wilkinson in hosting the Children’s Christmas Party, at the Officers Mess. Earlier in the day, they had been joined by other Elf helpers (Mums/wives), to set up and decorate the rooms in the Mess. In the Dining Room was Father Christmas’ Grotto which looked amazing. First, the children (and parents) were entertained by a magician who mesmerised and amazed them with his range magic tricks. This was followed by a wonderful buffet supper and soft drinks; all served by the elves. The parents were treated to gluhwein and mince pies. After the magic show Father Christmas arrived and took his seat in his Grotto. Assisted by the elves, each child met with Father Christmas, told him what they wished for Christmas and left with a lovely gift. Despite being excited and tired from all the activities, the children still had the energy to end the party with a disco. Our many thanks to the Mums/wives, especially Hannah, Becky H, Melanie, Amy, Becky B, who helped set up and assist at the party. Helping children learn ‘To Be The Best’ at Finlay Primary School Sgt Walker and Cpl Locking from the Welfare Centre have been getting involved with the community by working with the Finlay Primary School Year 3 children, as part of their ‘Be the Best’ learning programme put together by their class teacher Mr Delaney. The children learned everything they needed to know with the help of Sgt Walker and Cpl Locking, from the first Roman Soldiers in Britain through to what is required of a Soldier of today, from diet and exercise and to the importance of Remembrance Day. Over the period of the programme, the children were set tasks on what they had learned, which were rewarded with a badge being presented and put onto sashes. The children were finally awarded their individual sashes at a passing out parade where family members were able to come and watch them receive their sashes from Captain Mike Thomas MBE, Sgt Walker and Cpl Locking. 14 theIMJIN SPRING 2018
