It's no secret that both Carol Riordan and I have been working hard for several years to provide exposure to independent musicians. We've discovered such amazing talent and ran an indie music radio station, much like the hundreds of other indie radio stations that are out there. We had an award winning radio show and loved what we were doing. It seemed, though, that no matter what we did, we just couldn't build a large enough audience to make a dent. Yes, we did all of this because of our passion for the indies, but we also want to ultimately make some money doing it! Let's face it, if we could make money running the station, that would mean we could devote 100% of our time and effort towards the station.

It's not possible, apparently. One of the points I made above was that there are hundreds of radio stations around the world playing independent muic. That statistic, in and of itself, is the main reason for the problem. It's already a huge task just getting people to put aside their mainstream crap music to listen to a radio station like WWIR. People just don't want to listen to music they don't know. They think that if you're indie, you must not be good. Otherwise, you'd be signed and making millions of dollars! Now, couple the fact that people are stubborn with there being hundreds of indie stations fighting to get listeners makes it VERY difficult. It's just spread way too thin to make being an indie radio station worthwhile if you plan to make any money doing it.

Now, let's talk about the musicians themselves. Carol and I have only asked one thing from the bands we play in exchange for providing whatever exposure we can; cross promotion. You want people to hear your music on the radio? Tell them about our station and have the tune in! Carol and I can count on less than two hands the number of bands/musicians that actually follow through. (You know who you are.)

You're probably wondering where this is going. Well, with the first 6 months of this magazine completed, we've decided to put all of our effort into it. As such, World Wide Indie Radio will soon be taken offline. The IMC Magazine will conitinue to provide a venue for band exposure. We will focus on the best of the best and slowly build a a readership. It was a difficult decision to make. We love
