We love shows like Game of Thrones and what older generations refer to as “Japanese cartoons”. We are taken with the fantastic, but this doesn’t mean that we avoid reality.
Lindsey spent nearly an hour on the theme of positive thinking- building up the people around us and actively working for the good of our fellow humans.
Look at who have been teaching today’s youth. We were raised by leaders in the Civil Rights movement, feminists, and Gay Rights activists.
Our culture is obsessed with equality. So maybe the reason we love fantastic things is because we have such a strong desire to achieve them. Lindsey embodied that desire in everything she did.
It wasn’t until the next day that I realized I had just been more excited and happy at that concert than I’d been in a very long time. And you know what? She did it without drugs. She did it without promoting sex.
She did it without violence or profanity. She had somehow achieved the perfect mix of energy, fun, and clean life and given it to all of us. She proved it could be done.
It doesn’t take long to catch the blatant feminism in Stirling’s work. In her show she said something like “I was definitely lacking some estrogen on the last tour, so I decided to bring along some strong ladies this time!”
With bands like Echosmith and Olivia Somerlyn opening the show, as well as the all-female dance crew of Malece Miller, Amy Yakima, Addie Byers, and Ashley Gonzales, Stirling’s mission to establish a strong feminine presence could not be ignored.
As a man, I appreciated that Lindsey fulfilled her goals without being sexist.
There are times that I feel like feminism is used as means to discriminate against men, but I didn’t see that with Stirling. She didn’t seem to be trying to say “Hey, we’re better than you”, but instead sent the message “we are strong, we are talented, and we have earned our success”. I couldn’t agree more.
