The New Music Seminar is the world’s most influential Music Business convention, led by the voices that disrupt the conventional, tackle key issues, and provide a stage for trailblazing artists to shine. NMS is the place to network, engage, and discuss the future of the art and business of music.

From 1980-1994, NMS established itself as the most influential Music Business Conference of its time. In 2009, NMS was revived to convene the visionaries and industry leaders – paving a way to move past the dying record business. After 12 years of cleansing decline, we have a new attitude; a new optimism, a clear path to a bigger, more engaged, more inclusive, more sustainable music ecosystem.

The New Music Seminar is perfect for anyone looking to further their career in any and all facets of the music business. Recording Companies, Music Publishers, Music Technologies, Managers, Agents, Artists, Songwriters, Producers, and artist & label services from around the world come together each June in New York City to cross-pollinate, share ideas, and create new opportunities. Here are some of the highlights of the seminar:

Day one began by tackling key challenges and discussions on how to restore the music business back to its former glory through numerous movements with well-spoken and informed players.

The Do It Yourself 2015 movement, conducted by Dick Huey of Toolshed, kicked off the day. Attendees witnessed players across the industry including Emily White (Co-Founder, Whitesmith Entertainment), Ariel Hyatt (Founder,

Cyber PR), Han Kim (Artist Manager, Outerloop Management), and more discuss what is necessary to

succeed on your own as an up-and-coming artist in this industry. Hyatt added, "Focus first on getting real fans who really love your music."

"I want to help you build the RIGHT fan base; one that will support you on your path to becoming a self-sustaining, successful musician.

In order to make this happen, you need to make a foundation; combining strong personal brand and killer digital strategy."

Diana talked with Ariel about how she can help Independent Artists:

The Touring For Road Warriors panel was equally exciting while exploring a new side to the industry:

traveling and all that comes with it. Dave Lory (President, DJL Live Music Productions) conducted this movement and discussed the key aspects of touring, such as preparing, budgeting time and money, working with a booking agent, handling transportation issues as well as how to make more money or how to find a new audience.

Players for this movement included Jake Gold (President, The Management Trust) and Martin Atkins (Chair - Music Business Department, SAE Chicago), while learning tips and tricks on how to be a touring professional, summing up the discussion.
