Since the teaser-release of her single Heart Throb, I have been anxiously awaiting the release of Elia Esparza’s full EP.

As with any time I’m waiting to hear music, I had high hopes for Esparza’s self-titled EP, but I was not expecting to love it as much as I did.

Esparza’s music took me to a strange new dimension in which Joan Jett and Sarah Bareilles and a tiny bit of dubstep had joined forces and become a single entity.

Esparza’s delivery is often in contrast to her music, singing calmly as the percussion rushes forward, or getting intense over a deep bass. I appreciated the variety I found present in this EP.

While I would say that I found all of the songs exciting, I never felt like I was hearing the same thing over and over again.

My top three favorite tracks, in order are as follows: Heart Throb, Avenue, Here’s to Waste. I can’t get over that deep throbbing beat that brings Heart Throb to life, and I immediately added it alongside Soren Bryce Martin and Watson’s music in my “favorites” playlist.

Avenue is likely the most unique song to Esparza’s EP, a total overhaul of those that played before it.

And Here’s to Waste? It just has that something. Fans of 80s rock, soft rock, current pop, and electronica will love Elia Esparza, which is currently available for free download at soundcloud.com/eliaesparzamusic.
